CDM profiles

Three parts of CDM define the six profiles which make up the Claim Detail Message Suite.

 Part 3: Basic Claim Detail profiles

There are four basic claim detail profiles, which have a lot of similarities but vary depending on the process agreed between licensor and licensee. These are:

  • Post-usage reporting of new claims and/or invoice details profile

    • This profile enables a licensor to make claims and provide invoice details to a licensee following receipt of a DSR sales/usage report (or equivalent) from the licensee to which the message is being sent;

  • Correcting post-usage reports of new claims and/or invoice details profile

    • This profile enables a licensor to send corrections about claims or the invoice details to a licensee when errors have been identified (whether by the licensor or the licensee) in a post-usage reporting profile message;

  • Pre-usage reporting of new claims profile

    • This profile enables a licensor to make claims to a licensee following receipt of a Masterlist profile message (or equivalent) from the licensee to which message is being sent. Because this profile message can be sent before usage takes place, there is no invoice information in the message;

  • Correcting pre-usage reports of new claims

    • This profile enablce a licensor to send corrections about claims to a licensee when errors have been identified (whether by the licensor or the licensee) in a pre-usage reporting profile message.

All the profiles have a common structure as follows, although the record type being used in each case may vary:

  • One header record (which is the same for all profiles);

  • One or more summary records;

  • None, one or more blocks containing information about the musical works against which claims are being made and the resources to which those musical works have been matched to by the licensee; and

  • One footer record (which is the same for all profiles).

 Part 4: Notification of Record Discrepancies profile

This profile is used by a licensee to report record discrepancies to a licensor. Record discrepancies include:

  • Structural errors in the basic claim profile message such as missing mandatory Record Types or Cells;

  • Use of allowed values not supported by the CDM;

  • Missing Record Types or Cells that are technically optional or conditional but that are agreed to be present between the licensor and licensee in their bilateral agreement(s);

  • Data in Cells that leads to discrepancies in royalty calculations between the information provided in the basic claim profile message received by the licensee, and, its own calculations; and/or

  • Any other discrepancies of this nature that are agreed between licensor and licensee.

The structure of this profile is similar to the basic claim profiles, as follows:

  • One header record (which is the same as that used for the basic claim profiles)

  • One or more summary records;

  • One or more discrepancy records; and

  • One footer record (which is the same as that used for the basic claim profiles)

 Part 5: Notification of Over-claim Discrepancies profile

This profile is used by a licensee to report over-claim discrepancies. Over-claim discrepancies arise when a licensee detects, or believes she has detected, that two or more licensors have made claims in respect of a single musical work that together exceed 100% of the total allowed claim.

Again, the structure of this profile is similar to the basic claim profiles, as follows:

  • One header record (which is the same as that used for the basic claim profiles)

  • One or more summary records;

  • One or more discrepancy records; and

  • One footer record (which is the same as that used for the basic claim profiles)
