Best Practices for Catalogue Transfers choreography

The Best Practices for Catalogue Transfers sets out a choreography that should take place between Rights Controllers (the relinquishing company and the acquiring company). Details of each step are specified in the text. A Relinquishing Rights Controller and an Acquiring Rights Controller can be, or may also involve, a Relinquishing Distributor and an Acquiring Distributor respectively.

  1. Establishing a contract between the Relinquishing Rights Controller and the Acquiring Rights Controller;

  2. Where the Relinquishing Rights Controller is using the services of a Distributor, the Relinquishing Rights Controller will need to obtain a copy of all the data from its Distributor;

  3. Establishing an operational communication between the Acquiring Rights Controller and the Relinquishing Rights Controller;

  4. Where the Acquiring Rights Controller is using the services of a Distributor, the Acquiring Rights Controller will need to provide all necessary data to its Distributor;

  5. Establishing an operational communication between the Acquiring Rights Controller or Distributor to any DSPs;

  6. Communication of Release and Deal information from Acquiring Rights Controller or Distributor to any DSPs;

  7. Provision of status reports from the DSP to the Acquiring Rights Controller or Distributor; and

  8. Communication of take-down notices from the Relinquishing Rights Controller or Distributor to any relevant DSPs.

The text of the Best Practices for Catalogue Transfers then provides three mapping tables to enable the various parties to communicate information about releases and resources and administrative information that essentially identifies all the parties involved in the catalogue transfer, much like a message header would.
