Canonical spellings for names
There are no canonical spellings for names.
The K-Pop artist known in the Western world as “Psy” is, for example, spelled 싸이 in his native language and while his name written in Korean using Hangul characters might be considered canonical as this is how he spells it, the approach would not work for artists who cannot be asked what their canonical name is.
W. A. Mozart, who was born Joannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart, spelled his name either Wolfgang Amadé Mozart or Wolfgang Gottlieb Mozart, and is commonly spelled, at least when using the Latin alphabet, as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a spelling he rarely used.
The only reliable data point to uniquely identify and disambiguate artists and other parties is to use an identifier such as ISNI.
