Including and excluding DSP services in MWN
In the MWN standard, functionality for inclusions/exclusions of services is available in the RightShare composite. This enables specifying the applicability for online claiming and invoicing at DSP name and DSP service tier level. There are currently two elements for this functionality, DSP and ExcludedDSP, which both link to composites with a PartyId and a PartyName (one of these has to be provided), and TradingName and URL elements.
This article describes how these tags should be used, so that the information contained can be meaningfully and unambiguously interpreted by message recipients. The service names and tiers outlined in an agreement between licensor and DSP often do not correspond to the names being sent in the usage reports. Also, there are scenarios where multiple licensors may use different service names and tiers for what is essentially the same service(s). All this makes interpretation of the information and possible system automation of inclusions/exclusions difficult.
Applicability of inclusions/exclusions
Inclusions and exclusions apply at the right share level, as they may be specified in the RightShare composite.
If no DSP and ExcludedDSP are specified, it is assumed no DSP inclusions/exclusions apply.
DSP identification
Ideally the inclusions/exclusions should be notified at DSP level via the DSP’s DPID in the //RightShare/DSP/PartyId/DPID or //RightShare/ExcludedDSP/PartyId/DPID tags. All services should have a unique DPID. For example, while Meta owns Facebook and Instagram, each of these services (Facebook and Instagram) has its own DPID.
If a DPID is not available and the name of the DSP is to be used, then it is recommended to use the colloquially referred to service name/trade name, such as YouTube (not YouTube AVOD), Apple Music (not Apple Music Family versus Apple Student) in the //RightShare/DSP/PartyName or //RightShare/ExcludedDSP/PartyName tags.
If a DPID or service name/trade name is the only information supplied, it will be assumed the inclusion/exclusion applies to all service tiers that the DSP offers under that brand.
DSP service tier identification
To identify a specific DSP service tier, the name of the service tier, as per the licence agreement with the DSP, should be used in the //RightShare/DSP/TradingName or //RightShare/ExcludedDSP/TradingName tags. This constrains the meaning of the TradingName tag more than its definition in the standard, but provides a clear distinction between the name of the DSP and the name of the service tier.
