Error handling best-practice (MLC 1.4 RCSUM)

To improve the clarity, consistency, and interoperability of error reporting DDEX has agreed best-practices for communicating errors within the MLC 1.4 RightsClaimStatusUpdateMessage (RCSUM), particularly in areas where the XML Schema does not impose strict technical rules, ensuring that all parties receive transparent, actionable, and standardised information.

These best practices focus primarily on the RegistrationError composite within the RightsClaimcomposite of the RCSUM message, and on the consequential impact these errors have on the RegistrationStatus element.

The following pages define a more structured and consistent use of elements that are currently optional within the schema, in order to establish clear expectations between RDx, music licensing companies, and rights claimants:
