Instrumental music in ERN-3
Not all music contains singing. But there are a number of different types of what can be termed “instrumental” music. Below is a table with the recommended way of signalling different cases using the IsInstrumental and LanguageOfPerformance tags in the ERN standard:
Use case | IsIntsrumental | LanguageOfPerformance |
|---|---|---|
Instrumental music |
| Do not use |
Orchestral music | ||
Scatting |
|
|
Beat boxing | ||
Humming | ||
Singing “lalala” | ||
Animal sounds |
| Do not use |
Whistling | ||
Synthetic speech |
| The synthesised language |
Words spoken or sung by a human voice in the background (with no foreground voice) |
| The language used |
When communicating combinations of the above, the IsInstrumental and LanguageOfPerformancetags should reflect the dominant type.
